TURNTABLE TUESDAYS!

Just a little follow up to last week - we went to see the Local Natives at The Beach @ Governors Island on Saturday. Albeit a short show for how long it takes to get there, get settled in the sand with friends n' hunnies and after two hours, have to pack it up and head back home; it is definitely on our top 10 list of things to do for some NYC summer fun. At The Beach you grab a pint (eh hem, plastic party cup) of Six Point Ale, a Motz Burger (with a fixin's station, hello!) and chill out in the sand while listening to some really great music.

Now for this week - Funny enough, the concert we are going to feature as the 'Must See' for the week is the Brooklyn Based, Grizzly Bear. The have a very similar sound and vibe to the Local Natives and dominate with their vocal harmonies and use of traditional and electric instruments.

Since their inception in 2004, Grizzly Bear has come out with three albums, two EP's and in 2008 played at a five day concert with Paul Simon and opened for Radiohead on their second leg of their North American tour. Since then, they have been noted by Jay-Z as "incredible" and he hoped that the indie rock scene would continue to push & influence hip-hop.

If you're looking to kick up your party scene and really get down and boogie, check out The Twelves from Rio, Brazil at an S&B fav spot, Santos Party House! They are classified as Electro-Pop and definitely know how to keep our bodies rocking. The Twelves played SXSW and Spin Magazine made them one of their nine unknown acts to watch at the event. Their live show is based on some sick musical improv blending live keyboards, drum machines, mash ups and remixing on the spot. Click for Tix!

TURNTABLE TUESDAYS!

Welcome to our weekly and musically charged, Turntable Tuesdays!! We will recap a week in music, let you know about an amazing concert you need to put on your immediate calendar or give our 2-Cents on who's, literally, rocking our world!

Lady Gaga. We love you. You are not only rocking our world, but also those of parody artists! There are some serious youtubers out there that are cracking us up with their versions of her songs. Our favs are below:

#2 - Bad Romance - The Sims!!
#3 - Just Dance - Mostly Ke$ha, but this guy is actually awesome

OK - Now for the local stuff -There are some great venues in and around the city I have found that host some sick (and basically free) shows.
The Rockwood: TONIGHT! 10PM - check out Michael Daves. He's a little twangy and a bit of bluegrass and that banjo can definitely get you going - Listen to his song "I've Endured". Michael has been noted to play with the comedic genius, Steve Martin - they can be seen here performing together on Letterman (Michael on the right playing guitar).
Cameo: TONIGHT! 11PM - In Williamsburg if you're willing to ::GASP:: take the train. As this article states, it was noted back in late late late 2008 for being the trending hot spot concert venue! We love it! Get on the train and go! Especially when our friends, The London Souls, are playing a show this evening! Their sound is a mix between garage & funk-rock that resonates through out your body and keeps you jamming.
GoodUnits: This opened earlier this year and I have been to three concerts so far: Semi Precious Weapons, Santigold & a 40 Drum Earth Day Celebration hosted by Loomstate - all of which have been amazing and usually have a vodka sponsored open bar for a few hours - but you've got to be on a list! If you have the invite in hand - RSVP to that sucker NOW and go! The good shows don't usually start until 12, but well worth the lack of sleep you'll get.

SUGGESTION! Go to see Michael Daves first and then skip over to Willyburg and check out The London Souls! - What a night!

Hello followers, this is S&B!

This idea came to us a few months ago but we finally decide to put a blog together to document all of our adventures in & out of the city. We both love meeting new people and going to new places. We hope you enjoy!

Works in the fashion industry as a buyer for home goods. Her style is amazing and classic. She is also musically connected and can be found rocking out at any of her friend's concerts in downtown Manhattan or Brooklyn.

About B:

Born in Texas and currently resides in Midtown. A social networking maven and can be found bopping around at the hottest and hippest parties in NYC. You're at a hot club in the city? She probably knows the owner. Her roots are found in the Financial District researching for a Hedge Fund, but moved uptown to focus her Finance career within the Fashion Industry.
