Get Cultured!

Ending October 11th MoMa will be displaying Matisse's Radical Invention, 1913-1917 on the 6th floor.

"In the time between Henri Matisse's (1869–1954) return from Morocco in 1913 and his departure for Nice in 1917, the artist produced some of the most demanding, experimental, and enigmatic works of his career—paintings that are abstracted and rigorously purged of descriptive detail, geometric and sharply composed, and dominated by shades of black and gray. Works from this period have typically been treated as unrelated to one another, as an aberration within the artist's development, or as a response to Cubism or World War I. Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913–1917 moves beyond the surface of these paintings to examine their physical production and the essential context of Matisse's studio practice." Battle for the Best...Treats

It was NW's birthday in B's office so they decided to go with something new since NW is a cupcake, cake, cookie, really anything sweet fanatic. We decided to surprise her with Two Little Red Hens.

Sadly they only start serving cupcakes at 11am so we opted for scones. We indulged in blueberry, chocolate, and maple/walnut scones.

They were amazing, yum!! The maple syrup walnut confection tasted like crunchy French toast. It was hard for us to keep our hands off it.

We ordered a candied ginger scone that they boys indulged in, it was a little too sweet. The fresh cranberry & almonds scone was
nice and light and wasn't too crumbly or too cakey. We didn't need toppings like cream or jam which says a lot about a pastry. We'll definitely go back to try their famous cupcakes & cake.

Sorry Alice's Tea Cup, it looks like you've got some competition. :-(

It's Work-Out Time!

After 3 weeks of partying it was about time to cool down and work out. What a perfect opportunity to go spinning at SoulCycle which currently has 5 locations, UES, UWS, Tribeca, Bridgehampton, & Scarsdale. B tried the Tribeca location since Tribeca is fabulous! As soon as you enter SoulCycle you are greeted by a few lovely people who are all in shape...jealous!

After you sign in you get your spinning shoes and are given instructions for the lockers and locker room. The lockers are located in the hallway and bathroom is way down the other side. As B went to the restroom to change she heard the 6:30pm class cycling away to the most amazing music. The teacher was yelling, singing, & encouraging everyone to hold on. B was thinking this is going to be amazing & scary at the same time.

7:30pm...she stepped into the room which was dark and lite by 4 huge candles, no A/C. The instructor, Ayana, quickly came by to introduce herself and help B get her bike set up, she hopped on the bike....here we go!!! It started off slow in 1st position and then YIKES the music just started blaring and it was time to burn some fat. We did push-ups on the bike, then switched to up hill riding, 3rd position, up down up down, weights and then cool down. B was sweating = success!!!!

The atmosphere is amazing, the music gets you going, & everyone in your class will inspire you to keep going.
