How could we forget to mention the Electric Zoo Festival this weekend?
2 days of amazing music located on Randall's Island, only a hop skip away, will feature some of the best DJ's in NYC/World minus David Guetta :-(
Axwell one of our favorites who is 1/3 of Swedish House Mafia will be performing on the 4th. Listen to Axwell's new hit Nothing But Love
Other amazing artists, The Chemical Brothers, Chuckie, Major Lazer (Pon De Floor), Pretty Lights, ATB, Moby, etc etc. Check out all the artists here. Tickets are a little pricey, 2 days $157, 1 day $96 but it's the perfect way to end the summer, sadly.
So after our perusal of the Music Scene this week, we came across a musical talent that performed LAST night at Santo's Party House: Mishka. Bummer! Our Bad! But we still wanted you to hear him because we've been fans ever since we found the Starbucks Free Song Download card last year. Mishka spent most of his early life on a boat in the Carribean (getting a sick tan) and soaking in the Rastifari lifestyle. Click on the link above for his MySpace page and listen to the song "Above the Bones". He's got a reggae/folk/soul sort of sound that is just perfect for the lazy, summer dwindling days of August.
OK Mr. Gorgeous Blue Eyes, we're definitely jammin' and we wanna be jammin' with you.Mishka is on tour and we aren't sure when he'll be back in NYC, but for all of you Cali S&B Blog lovers, he's headed out your way in October - check the schedule here! We'll keep you posted when he's back in our hood.
Barbuto located in the West Village is a great place to people watch and that's about it really. Jonathan Waxman from Top Chef Masters disappointed our plates. Located on the hot corner of Jane & Washington Street you would expect to have this delicious dinner that would blow your mind since Cafe Gitane is literally around the corner along with Standard Grill. They have a good space with a huge outdoor seating, but keep in mind if it's hot out, they don't have A/C, so don't bring a date here unless it's 70 degrees!
Starters:
Insalata Caprese
Mussels
Entrees:
Pollo al Forno (roasted chicken) w/salsa verde
Spigola ai Ferri (black cod) w/endive, leeks, & mushrooms
B's Review: I was excited to try a Top Chef Master's restaurant since they are "the best" in world, but was disappointed with a few things, first the A/C condition. Mind you I love to people watch and I am known to stop a conversation just to watch someone cross the street or put a bike in their car, but on an August night having no A/C is not fun. I love the garage feel look as it makes it a comfortable environment...perfect brunch location. 2nd disappointment was the amount of oil on the insalata caprese. The tomatoes & cheese on this salad were outstanding as we learned that the chefs go to the market everyday and pick out fresh ingredients that is why the menu changes everyday, but the salad was drenched in oil. My chicken was outstanding since it was moist, but it lacked that kick, that flavor. It was also HUGE; they actually served me a 1/2 chicken, so if you want to share a dish, this is the dish. My girls ordered the fish plates and the black cod was amazing and buttery, the side salad...gross. The red snapper was hardly touched since it was too sweet and the combination didn't go together. Sadly I don't think I'll be venturing back there...sorry Mr. Waxman.
One of our favorite blogs, 1000AwesomeThings, posted this video under #844 Celebrities on Sesame Street. It's hilarious and adorable...cheer up Monday will be over soon :-)
Check out more of 1000AwesomeThings & tell us which ones you love. Also pick up his book, make a great collection for the coffee table....
A little about the blog: Neil started this blog after his life was falling apart. He tried to get his life back on track by remembering the simple things in life that make it so bittersweet. It's honestly an awesome blog.
If you are in Beverly Hills from September 22 to November 6 check out this amazing exhibition called Contraband.
Counterfeit BMW hood ornaments from China
A little bit about the artist and exhibition:
Taryn Simonlived in John F Kennedy International Airport from November 16 through November 20, 2009. JFK processes more international passengers than any other airport in the United States.Contrabandincludes photographs taken 24 hours a day of over 1000 items detained or seized from passengers and express mail entering the U.S. from abroad. Over five days, in both the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Federal Inspection Site and the U.S. Postal Service International Mail Facility, Simon documented items including counterfeit American Express travelers checks, overproof Jamaican rum, heroin, a dead hawk, an illegal Mexican passport, deer penis, purses made from endangered species, Cuban cigars, counterfeit Disney DVDs, khat, gold dust, GHB concealed as house cleaner, cow manure tooth powder, counterfeit Louis Vuitton bags, prohibited sausage, undeclared jewelry, steroids and an ostrich egg.
"Here's a new way of looking at oil spill clean-up: Forget the big, massive work crews and hefty price tags. Instead, just deploy an armey of autonomous, oil scrubbing robots. They can find the oil on their own. And when they reah the site of an oil spill, they talk to their robot friends to figure out the best way to get the whole thing mopped up." CNN
Cask Bar+Kitchen recently opened on 33rd between Lexington & 3rd Avenue. If you live around the neighborhood this is definitely the spot to call you "neighborhood bar." They have a great bar scene for an after work crowd and an even better party room downstairs. This is not your typical Murray Hill bar which is so refreshing! The crowd looked to be 25+ and everyone was dressed well, no frat boy look...sorry.
Starters:
Frommage - White Cheddar, Gorgonzola, & Pepper Crushed Goat
B's review: The food was great. The cheese platter was presented very well and came with olives, grapes, jam, & crackers. I would definitely order the frommage plate again without the gorgonzola cheese - just not a fan. It's a great way to start the meal. The mushroom flatbread was amazing! The fresh mozzarella & truffle oil made the dish. The salmon was good, cooked perfectly & had lots of flavor. The potato cake tasted like mashed potatoes that had been fried on top...yummy; the spinach = not a fan. I would definitely go back there. It was a great place to grab dinner. It had a great scene, excellent service, & great food options.

Our friend Schwartz came over the other night and he kept blabbing about this amazing water bottle he just bought at Bloomingdale's. After calming him down and listening to his spiel we checked it out and it's awesome!!!
I know you are asking what makes these water bottles so special, well:
they purify water as you drink
change the filter after 2 months or 40 gallons of H20
the bottle is made out of recycled plastic
to wash you just use hot water
they come in cool colors
they are $9.95
Honestly it's time to get off that paying for a bottle water...order online OR go to Bloomies! Who knows maybe you'll start a trend...
-S&B
thanks Schwartz for the heads up on this awesome product!!!
Thank you for coming out last night! We had an amazing time. To view pics from last night click on the image above! OR visit us on Facebook under S&BRunThisCity OR click here.

For everyone coming tonight we received an email from Justin's mom thanking us for our event tonight (Taco Tuesday @ Hudson Terrace). We thought we would share:
The Hanna Family would personally like to thank each and every one of you ladies
for graciously choosing the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as your charity of
choice for this event. It means the world to Justin and our whole family. We
only wish that we were able to attend but we are currently in the hospital with
Justin for treatment. Every dollar donated to LLS is one step closer to finding
a cure for this disease.
Okay Folks - We're a little pressed for time this week as we are gearing up for our first major appearance at Taco Tuesday tonight at Hudson Terrace, so today's post will be right to the point. (Which, by the way, if you are reading this, you should be there. We don't accept lame-o excuses.)
#1. Scissor Sisters - Performing with Sammy Jo at Terminal 5 on Wednesday, August 25th at 7pm - one of our favorite venues to hear good music. You can score tickets for $40 on Ticketmaster (complete with tax and stuff). Even though they may not feel like dancing - we sure do! They are ALSO raising $$ for charity - so if you can't make it to the show, Scissor Sisters would like to give you the option of donating $10.00 to CommonGround Collective to aid Hurricane Katrina survivors through their free health clinic. They still need our help and your generosity is greatly appreciated! Nice guys, eh? DONATE! #2. A friend of S&B's, Bruno Mars performs with Nina Sky (Uhh SICK DUO! HELLO!) at Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday, August 25th, at 8pm. We've featured him in previous posts and still love his music. Some little known facts about Bruno - his father was from Brooklyn (holler!) and he was raised in Honolulu! So jealous. We want to go to Honolulu - Bruno! Take us there!! Unfortunately - his show for Wednesday is sold out - BUT - as always, we're sure you can get the hook up from Craigslist. Since Bruno & Nina are such hot ticket items, it might cost you an arm and a leg. Ouch.
#3. Some more S&B friend love, Steel Train will be performing at Bowery Electric on Thursday August 26th at 7pm. They have been rocking it for years and we played in the marching band with them in high school. Yeah, we're kinda big deals. It's ok - we know. Anyway - so they have performed on Letterman and if anything - Steel Train is the big deal. We heart them. Tix are $10.00 - you can afford it. Just go on the air & water diet for a day.
Tonight Macao Trading Co. is having an open bar...HOOORAY!!! They host a monthly party called Drunken Dragon Night which starts at 9pm. At 11pm a burlesque cabaret show begins hosted by Calamity Chang.
